Certified Translation Template and Sample

What is a Certified Translation?

Any foreign language birth certificate, academic document, marriage certificate and other document that is submitted to USCIS or to an immigration court in association with an application or a formally request, must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

A certified English translation is a full English language translation which the translator has certified as complete and true, and that he or she is proficient to translate from a foreign language into English.
While a translation is done by a certified translation service or certified translator, the translation may also be done by anyone who is capable in both languages in which the document is expressed.

What Does the Translator Certification Mean?

To guarantee acceptance by immigration, the government and employers, certain documents must be certified. This is done by a certified translation service. One of the requirements of a certified translation is the translator's affidavit or certificate on it.

In simple words, it is one to which the translator has added a statement that the translation is true, accurate, and correct "to the best of my knowledge and ability".

A translator's certificate will guarantee that:

·         The translated documents acquire a declaration signed by the translator or translation company representative

·         It includes the translator’s signature notarized by a Notary Public

·         It includes that the translator believes that the target language is an accurate and complete translation of the source language.

Format for Certified Translation

The translator must certify that s/he is knowledgeable to translate and that the translation is precise. The certification format should take in the certifier’s name, signature, address, and date of certification.

This certification's main goal is to let the reader know that an expert translator produced the translation and assures that it was done to the best of her/his knowledge.

Elements in a Certified Translation

These are some elements in a certified translation:
·         Translator's name, statement and signature (translator's affidavit)
·         Company stamp
·         Golden seal with the company incorporation details
·         Security seal with a number code for the translator

Sample of Certified Translation

This is one of the several translation declarations used by translation agencies in the United States:
I, [translator's name], hereby declare that I am fluent in [source language] and [target language], and that this translation is a true, accurate and complete version of the original text to the best of my knowledge.

[Translator's signature]

Note: This statement should be attached to the translation, with pages of the translation initialed. That needs delivery of the actual paper. This certified translation sample seems to have very limited value other than as a legal form. The translator will produce a precise translation best of his or her knowledge and idea. It would be very strange for any translator to certify to any higher or lower standard.

Certified Translation Template
Every country has its own certified translation template so there is not any particular certified translation template one could use.
